Coweta County May 18 joined Troup and Carroll counties in signing an intergovernmental agreement for federal grant money to fund the Coweta Judicial Circuit Drug Court Program.

Commissioners agreed to accept the federal funds through the FY 09 Recovery Act’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant in the amount of $428,292.

Across the three counties, the three-year grant funds will pay for items such as drug program coordinators and a case manager, travel mileage, a copier and supplies.

The agreement stipulates that Troup County will be responsible for administering the reimbursable grant funds. The grant period runs from April 1, 2010 through Dec. 31, 2012.

The vote on the agreement was 4-0. Commissioner Randolph Collins, an employee of the Georgia Dept. of Public Safety, abstained.
