The Senoia City Council at the June 21 meeting heard the second reading and voted to amend the “Parking of Vehicles and Trailers” portion of the city’s zoning ordinance. The amendment relates to the size of the vehicle or trailer and the locations where parking would be allowed.

One of the changes to the ordinance states that no vehicles or trailers which are eight feet or higher in height and have more than two axles will be permitted to be parked in front of the main building or dwelling or in the side or rear yards of residential dwellings.

The ordinance applies to personal vehicles such as recreational vehicles and travel trailers and to school buses and commercial vehicles and trailers.
The change in this portion of the ordinance came with the addition of “or higher.”

Another change concerns the parking of vehicles. Parking for these vehicles would not be allowed in any publicly owned, or with the amendment any “leased,” parking area, spaces or street except when loading or unloading and not for a time period exceeding two hours.

Other provisions of the ordinance state that no travel trailer or commercial trailer can be permanently used for storage or additional retail space inside city limits. Those trailers can be used for storage at construction sites and renovation projects but must be parked in a manner consistent with the ordinance.
