Peachtree City Path Cleanup on May 7 has been deemed a big success.

With the help of about 100 volunteers, numerous bags of rubbish were removed from the path system as part of the annual Keep Peachtree City Beautiful trash cleanup event.

The city was mapped into 14 zones with a trash collection point for each. As bags were filled, they were returned to the collection zones, unless the volunteers decided it was easier to dispose of in their home trash.

Volunteers for the event ran the gamut from individuals, entire families, church groups and civic clubs.

In addition to collecting the usual trash along the paths, the volunteers also noted on maps where unusually large items were found so they can be collected by Keep Peachtree City Beautiful at a later date.

“It is wonderful to know there is this kind of volunteer effort city-wide,” said Councilmember Kim Learnard,

Also as part of Keep Peachtree City Beautiful, the city’s recycling center collected “big garbage” items as well as recyclables on Saturday and Sunday.

KPTCB uses other help year-round in the form of traditional volunteers as well as probationers serving their community service sentence, officials have said.

While the golf cart paths are the city’s signature feature, they can easily become overrun with litter. KPTCB maintains a host of blue-colored trash cans scattered along the cart path system to make litter disposal easier.
