It’s just one more week before the town of Tyrone celebrates its centennial. Be at Shamrock Park, Saturday, Aug. 20, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Also be sure to bring along a lawn chair and a hearty appetite. There will be free food, games and entertainment just like at a family reunion. Shown in the old photo from left to right, Bernie Eugene McElwaney, a member of the first City Council after its incorporation in 1911. He had begun business in this location in 1909. Carlton Erastus Whitlock is shown purchasing a new car; several young McElwaney relatives; in the car, Lillian Whitlock and Emma McElwaney, and behind the car is the car salesman whose name is not known.
