Republican State Sen. Mitch Seabaugh of Sharpsburg will be trading in his politician’s wares for those of a prominent state employee.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced today that Seabaugh has been appointed to the position of Deputy State Treasurer. As a result, Coweta voters will be heading to the polls Nov. 8 to elect a replacement for Seabaugh in the 28th District.

Coinciding with Seabaugh’s appointment, former deputy state treasurer Steve McCoy is being elevated to the position of state treasurer, Deal also announced. The Office of the State Treasurer is responsible for receipt and disbursement of state funds and lottery funds, management of the state’s cash resources, Georgia Fund 1 and the Georgia Extended Asset Pool.
