Dad taught us to honor the U.S. flag

My father was a Korean War veteran. He was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization.

To identify our home to new friends, I told them to look for the house with the bright green flagpole in the front yard. Dad matched the flag pole to the bright green trim on our small brick house.

He taught us how to raise and lower the flag. Dad also taught us how to correctly fold the flag.

I confess that as a youngster I did not fully appreciate the importance of learning how to respect the flag.

Peachtree City is a wonderful place to live. Residents are eager to display the American flag. Please note that our flag should be displayed only between sunrise and sunset unless it is illuminated at night.

I always think of my dad when I see a flag out in the dark. Respecting the American flag was important to him. My dad was honored with a military burial and the folded flag was presented to Mom.

Dad and I thank you for your patriotism. God bless America!
