The Oct. 1 meeting of the Fayette County Board of Education came with the announcement of the retirements of Safety, Discipline and Athletics Director C.W. Campbell, Transportation Department head Michael Jennings and After-school Program Director Juli Simpson.

Superintendent Jeff Bearden at the meeting said Campbell has 30 years in education, including 10 of those years with the Fayette school system.

“He has done a tremendous job,” Bearden said.

Jennings has run the school system’s transportation department since mid-2005, according to school system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.

Bearden said both Jennings and Campbell’s jobs will be filled and posted immediately.

And commenting on a replacement for Simpson, Bearden said he believed a part-time director could fill the position for the remainder of the school year. Bearden noted that the need for the position to return to a full-time capacity could be assessed in the spring. Funding for Simpson’s position comes from the after-school program budget rather than the general fund.Pertaining to the announcement, Berry-Dreisbach said there were no special incentives being offered for retirements.

Also recently retired was Human Resources Director Reanee Ellis, who served from mid-2005 through mid-2012.
