Starr’s Mill High Panther Pride Marching Band wowed the crowd and judges at the Heart of Georgia marching competition in Warner Robins Oct. 20 with their show “Viva Espana!” The Pride took the top award of Grand Champion over 16 other bands from across the state with a score of 95.58. They were also awarded a Superior rating in every category. Judged against all other performers, the Panther band took Best Visual Effect, Best Music, Best Overall Effect designations. Ryan Bolt was judged Best Drum Major at both of the band’s recent competitions. The percussion section and the Guard were awarded third places overall. The band is directed by Scott King, with Dan Akins as assistant band director, Billy Dawn Starkey as Color Guard instructor, and James McDaniel as percussion instructor. Photo/Special.
