The Fayette County School System is submitting an application to request state funds that will help with a number of capital projects next year that will bring roofing or heating-air conditioning work to four schools. The state funds requested total $4.25 million.

State funding through the FY 2014 Capital Outlay Program is being requested for projects at McIntosh High School, North Fayette Elementary School, Flat Rock Middle School and Burch Elementary School.

The school system also has funds being collected through the current E-SPLOST that are designated for facilities improvements.

The application is requesting $1,146,401 in state funding for roof work at McIntosh; $430,288 for HVAC improvements at North Fayette; $1,746,265 for HVAC and roof work at Flat Rock; and $928,337 for HVAC and roof work at Burch.

None of the schools in the application is being considered for closure by the Fayette County Board of Education.

Fayette voters in 2008 signed off on an E-SPLOST initiative that included approximately $17 million for facilities improvements. Collections for the current E-SPLOST began in mid-2009 and will expire in mid-2014. The E-SPLOST has a $115 million collection ceiling, though school system estimates indicate that actual collections by the end of the period may total $90-95 million.

The E-SPLOST was continued by voters on Nov. 6 and will take effect in mid-2014. The continued E-SPLOST also has facilities improvements listed as a collection category.
