Mr. Harry Franklin Martin, Sr. age 83 of Peachtree City, GA died Wednesday, November 28, 2012.  His body was cremated and services are planned for Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home, 1 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan, GA 30263.   A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until service time. 

Originally a South Carolina native, he was born on May 3, 1929 in Marion County.  He had a early love for aviation, earning his pilot’s license at the young age of 14, eventually flying for the Civil Air Patrol.  Harry attended high school at Carlisle Military Academy in Bamberg, South Carolina after which he attended both the Citadel and Vanderbilt University.  Later, Harry served in the United States Army for 2-1/2 years in Japan during the Korean Conflict,  Eventually Harry’s love of aviation spanned a 41 year career with the Federal Aviation Administration.  Harry was a remarkable husband, father, and friend, whose life was characterized by his selfless compassion for others.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Boyd Martin and granddaughter, Lindsay Nicole Martin.  Survivors include Harry’s wife, Ann Martin; sons, Harry, Jr. and wife Daphne of Williamson, Georgia, Boyd and Jeannie Martin of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Scott Keech and wife Ginger of Ooltewah, Tennessee; 4 grandchildren, Corey Martin, Jacob Martin, Kelly Keech, and Makenna Martin.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society or the cancer charity of your choice.
