A life-threatening situation came to a good end last week when Newnan firefighters resuscitated a 3-year-old boy after a near-drowning in the Summer Grove pool.

Capt. Damon Rosser said firefighters Richard Scott and Jim Murphy were among the four firefighters arrived at the scene within 3-4 minutes after being dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 24.

An adult female approached the firefighters carrying the near-lifeless child, Rosser said. Scott took the child and began administering CPR while Rosser called for an air flight helicopter.

“The boy was almost lifeless, was cyanotic and had a shallow pulse,” Rosser explained, noting that the three-year-old had been underwater for under a minute and was pulled out by an adult.

The child responded to CPR within two minutes and was being prepared for transported while a landing zone for the helicopter was being set up to fly him to Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital, Rosser said.

Rosser said he was able to visit the child’s home a few days later and found the little boy in good condition.

“To see him playing at home was a joy,” Rosser said.
