Call it the million-dollar mystery. A winning ticket in Thursday’s Powerball was sold at the Braelinn Chevron convenience store at Robinson Road and south Peachtree Parkway, Georgia Lottery officials have confirmed.

The big question is who exactly was the winner? As of Friday morning, the winning ticket holder has not come forward, but he or she matched the five winning numbers without matching the Powerball number. That is good for a $1 million prize, which will be reduced by taking out 31 percent to cover state and federal taxes, according to a Georgia Lottery spokesperson.

Other $1 million winning tickets were sold in Stockbridge and Pooler.

The Powerball jackpot had risen to $448 million since it began rolling over June 26, raising $9.9 million in profit for lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs, officials said.

Since its inception, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has raised more than $14.6 billion for education in Georgia. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE scholarships and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
