Police testing for pot in McIntosh student’s birthday brownies

A student at McIntosh High School could face a marijuana distribution charge if GBI tests confirm that brownies in his possession on campus were laced with pot, police said.

Blake W. Kessler, 18, was arrested April 1 at the school and charged with possession of marijuana (less than one ounce) and possession of one pill of lysdexamfetamine, a schedule II drug, according to a police incident report.

Lysdexamfetamine is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, according to the federal Food and Drug Administration.

If the tests confirm the presence of marijuana in the brownies, Kessler would then be charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, police said in the report.

In addition to confiscating the contraband and the brownies, police also took Kessler’s cellphone as evidence in the case, the report indicated.

Kessler’s arrest came on his 18th birthday, which happened to also coincide with April Fool’s Day.

The two witnesses listed on the police report were McIntosh Principal Lisa Fine and Assistant Principal James Stanford.
