Retired educators honor students

The Fayette County Retired Educators continue their interest in today’s students by giving awards to students from each of the middle schools and a scholarship to a senior from Fayette County High School.

This annual luncheon held in May is one of the highlights of the year.

Karen Bullock, former president of the group, Marion Key, chairman of the Fayette County Board of Education, Dr. Bob Todd, retiring member of the school board and Carol Diane Love, president-elect of the group presented the awards.

These outstanding middle school students were chosen by their schools: Duffy Weldon, Booth Middle; Brady Meyer, Rising Starr Middle; Sierra Sturgis, Flat Rock Middle, Jaedyn Tillery, Whitewater Middle; Samuel Ellis, Bennetts’s Mill Middle.

The $1,500 scholarship went to senior Zahra Ladiwala to help fulfill her dream of becoming an educator.
