District voting

I spent the first 28 years of my life in Ohio, which was pretty much always a Democratic state. When I came to Georgia 55 years ago, it was pretty much a Democratic state.

That said, I have pretty much voted for the person for many years, and not the party.

I live so far on the eastern side of Fayetteville, that I’m practically in Jonesboro. Since this district voting debacle has arisen I am now in a voting district with Tyrone.

Sorry, but I am incensed and angry that I am no longer allowed to vote for whomever I want in the other parts of Fayette County.

The representative chosen in Peachtree City or Brooks, for instance, is going to make rules concerning me. And evidently, I can’t do anything about it.

With at-large voting I am allowed to choose whomever I wish, or at least I have been able to until recently.

Yes, I voted for Pota in this last election. I did NOT vote for her because she was black, I did NOT vote for her because she  was a woman, I did NOT vote for her because she was a Democrat, and I did NOT vote for her because I HAD to.

I voted for her because she was quite qualified for the job.

At this time I understand there may be as many as 16 people qualifying to run for the United States presidency.
I have no idea who the final two might be two years from now, but I will choose one based on what I consider the best option at that time.

I would hate to think that at that time, people in Georgia are not allowed to vote for someone from, for instance, the state of Florida.  That’s not a stretch, folks, from what has been happening here in greater Fayette County.

Now I agree through the years we’ve had some doozies run and win for various elected positions in Fayette County. There are a couple right now that I wish would move, say, to DeKalb County.

One wonders what group will be next to want to divvy up Fayette County so they have a better chance of winning an election. I have been a Methodist for 82 years and I propose we county Methodists create a gerrymandered voting district to include as many Methodist churches in it  as we can.

Please allow me, district supporters, to vote for the person I choose, not the person you choose for me. I don’t tell you which church you have to join and you shouldn’t try to tell me who to vote for.
