The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring Beginning Bellydance with Bahira, using a centuries-old activity to promote fitness in a fun way.

Belly dancing is said to improve posture and flexibility, tone muscles, and strengthen your core. Attendees to the class will have fun while learning a foundation of proper posture and technique, basic moves, combinations, and flavorful Middle Eastern rhythms.

The program, open to ages 18 and older, “is for all shapes and sizes,” according to a statement.

It will take place at the Kiwanis Center on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30 p.m. beginning July 8 and ending Aug. 19 (no class July 22). Cost is $60 per resident and $90 per non-resident.
