Victoria Buker, a University of North Georgia sophomore from Newnan majoring in political science, was recognized at the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop at Murray State University in Kentucky.

She and two colleagues had their session proposal “Don’t Sweat it!” selected for presentation at SROW. This presentation discusses strategies for moderating limits, hydration and toleration.

Buker was one of 43 orientation leaders from three UNG campuses who attended the workshop, which allows orientation leaders from a variety of small and large schools across the Southeast to learn more about orientation programming and training. Orientation leaders attended educational sessions and network with leaders and professional staff from other institutions.

“SROW provides a great opportunity for our leaders to learn more about orientation best practices by attending educational sessions and networking with student leaders from other institutions,” said Darcy Hayes, director of UNG’s First Year Experience program. “Our leaders are able to take what they learn and apply it when they return to UNG. This benefits the institution and our new student population.”
