In celebration of Independence Day, Fayette County’s Victoria Wilcox will be conducting the Fayetteville LDS choir in “Sacred Honor,” a musical tribute to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, for which she also wrote the script. The program will be presented on Sunday evening, July 5, at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2021 Redwine Rd. (across from the Whitewater Creek neighborhood).

Wilcox studied music in college and has spent 30 years conducting choirs and children’s music, in addition to her work as a writer.  She is the award-winning author of Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday. She also spent time writing songs for Nashville recording artists. She says the “Sacred Honor” script is her gift to the community, hoping to inspire love of home and country.

“The men who signed the Declaration knew they were risking everything — their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor,” says Wilcox, “Yet they believed God would support them in their fight for freedom.  This program honors them and all those who still pledge their lives for freedom’s cause.”

A highlight of the program is a “Salute to the Armed Forces” which invites active and retired military to attend in uniform and stand to be recognized for their service.

“Freedom is not free,” says Wilcox, “and we are grateful for all those who sacrifice for our freedom and safety.  The Fourth of July weekend is a wonderful time to thank our military, as well as our Founding Fathers. After the parades and the barbecues and the fireworks, this is what Independence Day is really all about.”

The program is free and open to the public.  For more information, call 404-433-8115.
