Zombies will roam the streets of Senoia for another year.

As filming winds down for AMC’s series, the Senoia City Council voted unanimously for another one-year agreement with Stalwart Films to allow the series to start up shooting again next year in Senoia.

While the decision was unanimous, a candidate for council, Doris Chappell, expressed some regrets about the decision.

“This has created a disruption in our town, and this is our town,” she said.

Some residents grumbled about the city not getting fees for shooting rights, but Stalwart Films recently agreed to help the city out on a parks project.

In October, Stalwart Films Mike Riley told the City Councile that network parent AMC appreciated the enormous welcome the city has put out for the show the last few years and hopes to be in the city for another few years.

He said AMC wanted to do something to show the city its appreciation and huddled with city officials to discover a fitting project. 

Riley announced the network would donate $150,000 towards completing the city’s Seavy Street Park, that is in the middle of getting upgraded. The city had the initial funds to start on the infrastructure of rebuilding the part, but was still searching for funds to complete the park and add new equipment.

Developer Scott Tighelaar also backed renewing the show’s contract.

“Years ago, downtown was economically dead and today it’s full. Gin Street was a junkyard and now it’s been developed,” he said.

Mayor Larry Owens said City Administrator Richard Ferry would be meeting with Stalwart Films in the coming days to iron out any problems residents had with the filming this year.
