Two Fayette high school graduating seniors are among the 146 students from Georgia selected as candidates for the 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

Amelia S. Traylor of McIntosh High and Richard J. Macke of Starr’s Mill High have been invited to participate in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program based on their outstanding scholarship, achievement and promise of future success. The students will now begin the process of submitting materials to be eligible for selection as one of approximately 800 semifinalists, and ultimately a scholar. One male and one female from each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will be selected as scholars.

Students chosen as U.S. Presidential Scholars are selected by the Commission on Presidential Scholars, and will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. where they will be presented with a medallion at a ceremony in their honor. While there, the students will engage with accomplished people and participate in conversations and events over issues that concern America and the world.
