The Heritage Community Foundation presented a grant May 19 to president Mary Bruce and vice president Barbara Emert, Vice President, of Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County.

The $2,000 grant will used to purchase new tables and chairs for the Bethel Schoolhouse, which is currently used as an event facility and is the only remaining one-room schoolhouse in Clayton County.  Events hosted at the schoolhouse include meals for bus tour groups, bridal parties, school field trips, and other rentals and meetings.

The mission of Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County, Inc. is to preserve and promote the heritage of and interest in the historical background of Jonesboro, Clayton County, and Georgia. They provide an agency through which people are able to pool their resources and expertise. They welcome both national and global tourists for tours of the Stately Oaks house and outbuildings. School groups, Boy & Girl Scouts, and other youth organizations visit to learn about the Creek Indians and the Civil War lifestyle on the Native American and Homefront tours. Many community events are held at the site, including Native American Heritage, Victorian Mourning, and Victorian Christmas.
