Mr. Richard A. Callahan, 93, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away Sunday morning, May 29, 2016 at the Vitas Hospice in Stockbridge after an extended illness.

He was born in Boston, Mass. on June 18, 1922 to the late Charles B. Callahan and Catherine Rommelt Callahan. He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and serving a combined 20 years. Upon retirement he went and worked for the City of Atlanta in the Court System as a probation clerk, he was of the Catholic faith.

He is preceded in death by his daughter: Gail Callahan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years: Hannah H. Callahan of Fayetteville; son: Edwin Charles Callahan of Fayetteville; grandson: Captain Edwin Charles Callahan, Jr. (Mary) of Hawaii; granddaughter: Jessica Callahan of Atlanta and great-grandson: William Ford Callahan of Hawaii. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Callahan will be conducted on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Stockbridge, with military honors. Visitation with the family will be on Friday afternoon, June 3, 2016 from 4-6 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with a rosary service to begin immediately following the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations please be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Fund, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
