Colin Myers, seen here with scoutmaster Wilvor Butler, is an Eagle Scout.

The honor was recently bestowed upon him by the Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 79, based at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone.

To receive his Eagle, Colin completed extensive requirements that included classroom study, camping and orienteering, and community service projects.

The Eagle Scout process may take as long six years to complete and is designed to build leadership skills, encourage teamwork, and promote civic involvement.

For his Eagle project, Colin along with members of the troop built fencing around a community garden located at an area elementary school. The fencing was a deterrent to deer and other wildlife.

Colin participated in numerous community outreach programs to include serving at Trinity Table in downtown Atlanta, Scouting for Food, and preparing Blessing Bags for the homeless.  Colin received more than 30 Merit Badges during tenure as a scout.

Colin served as the troop’s chaplain aide since 2015.
