Fayetteville residents will get a glimpse of the future Thursday night when Mayor Ed Johnson presents his State of the City address.

Johnson is expected to paint a rosy picture of the city, as Fayetteville continues growing and the massive Pinewood Forrest development on the city gets underway.

In other items, The City Council will consider extending a moratorium on new rezonings and annexations on the Ga. Highway 85 north corridor to March 3.

In November, the City Council approved a 90-day moratorium so that staff could draft revisions to the Highway Corridor Overlay District to address the humber of narrow strip developments that emphasize automotive and other mechanical uses. Staff said the uses create objectionable environmental influences such as loud noise, odors and outside performance of service and installation.

The Planning Commission last week reviewed amendments to the ordinance and tabled any recommendations until its Jan. 24 meeting.

Staff believes everything should be in place by March 3 to fully discuss the issue.
