Is West Fayetteville getting ready to explode with development?

During Thursday night’s City Council meeting, the City Council was hearing an update on the comprehensive plan from Interim Director of Community Development Jahnee Prince. Prince explained that a member of the audience wanted to address the issue.

Chitra Subbarayan, who represents Ackerman and Company, showed the City Council a development concept for the Williams parcel of over 150 acres, bordered by Ga. Highway 54 and Sandy Creek Road. The development would feature a hotel, school, retail, townhomes and a variety of home sizes.

In an email about the proposal, Prince said, “It is pretty conceptual at this point” but said the developer wants to make sure the Future Land Use Map does not change from Neighborhood Mixed Use to low Density Residential, which is proposed for the property.

“Low Density Residential would not include some of the things they want to do, like the farm-to-table restaurant,” said Prince.

The latest concept for development on the city’s west side comes on the heels of Pinewood Forrest’s splashy grand opening weekend that featured a preview of the new urbanism community being built across the street from Pinewood Atlanta Studios.
