CW3 (Ret) Edward (Richard) Avery, 81, of Peachtree City, Ga., passed away June 19, 2017.

He was born in Griffin, Ga. on September 14, 1935 to the late Willis and Polly Avery. Mr. Avery retired from the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW3). He worked as a Prudential agent afterwards for nine years and then served as a civilian employee with FORSCOM, Ft. McPherson, Ga. and retired in 1998. His military service tours included Ankara, Turkey, Pirmasens, Germany, Nha Trang, Vietnam, Fort Richardson, Alaska, Arlington Hall Station, Virginia, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, Long Binh, Vietnam, Camp Red Cloud, Korea.

Mr. Avery was preceded in death by his son, Mark Avery in 1959 and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Avery; sons, Edward (Melissa) Avery, Jr. and Brad (Deborah) Avery; daughter, Angela Avery; brother, Terry (Patsy) Avery; and several grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 349 Kenwood Rd. Fayetteville, Ga. 30214, at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
