A Newnan man is in custody on assault and attempted robbery charges in a Feb. 9 incident at A Better Way Ministries in Peachtree City.

William Ronig, 47, was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery by intimidation, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesperson Odilia Bergh said the incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. as the victim arrived at the site.

Bergh said the victim reported that a man came up behind him and asked for money, with the victim believing the man had a gun.

The victim said he recognized the man’s voice as a former acquaintance at the ministry, Bergh said.

The victim responded by throwing hot coffee on the man, which resulted in him leaving the scene on a motorcycle, said Bergh.

Officers later in the day stopped the motorcycle at the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74 and took Ronig into custody, Bergh said.
