Alvan Carlton Smith, 77, of Fayetteville, Ga. passed away on November 16, 2018.  He was born on June 30, 1941 in Orlando, Fla. to the late Ralph and Lavinia Smith.

He attended Boone High School, Orlando, Fla.; Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla.; and Emory University Dental School, Atlanta, Ga. Alvan was a retired dentist with practices in Riverdale, Ga. and West Palm Beach, Fla.

Alvan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Benzing Smith; daughter, Ashley (Jerry) Potter; son, Allen (Cathy) Smith; grandson, Austin Smith; sister, Pat (George) Carver.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother (Bubba).

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Fayetteville Christian Church, Fayetteville, Ga. with Rev. Andrew Higle officiating.  The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. at the church prior to the memorial service.
