The Tyrone Town Council on Dec. 5 updated the town’s old noise ordinance to deal with nuisance issues that may arise.

The council vote on the updated ordinance was unanimous.

Mayor Eric Dial said the noise ordinance had not been updated since the 1980s, adding that the new ordinance mirrors the ordinance currently used by Fayette County.

Passage of the ordinance will allow police to update equipment used to measure sound violations, Dial said, noting that different standards apply to daytime and nighttime hours and to noise generated in residential and industrial settings.
