A New York man is in custody on 14 counts of forgery after avoiding arrest since 2018. He was arrested March 5 before he could board a flight to Canada.

Madjou Doumbouya, 33, of Bronx, New York, was charged with 14 counts of first-degree forgery, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the owner of a local restoration service filed a report in May 2018, noting that Doumbouya, a former employee, had obtained a company check, then duplicated it eight times and deposited the money into his personal account.

The investigation resulted in warrants being issued, Babb said, adding that Doumbouya had avoided detection since that time.

Babb noted that since the initial forgery report, Doumbouya was charged with six additional forgery counts, bringing the total to 14.

Things changed on March 5, when deputies were advised by customs personnel at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport that Doumbouya had been detained after being flagged due to the issued warrants before he could board a flight to Montreal, said Babb.

Deputies took Doumbouya into custody and transported him to Fayette County Jail.
