Bears build kazoos for sound study

The Bears know how to make their own sweet music. Robert J. Burch Elementary 1st graders learning about sound during their STEAM studies built their own kazoos to experience sound in action.

While learning about sound, how it is made, and key terms like vibration, volume, and pitch, students learned hands-on by making their own kazoos. They discovered the harder they blew, the louder the sound was, and they also learned more pressure applied with their lips changed the pitch of the sound.

First grade teacher Arlecia Herrington enjoyed seeing the students dive into the activity.

“The hope of the learning experience was for students to learn about sounds, explain their understanding to others, and apply that understanding to future experiences.”
