All of the practice perfecting enunciation and facial expression paid off for the poetry recitation champions at the Griffin RESA Regional Literacy Days Festival.

Students representing Fayette County Public Schools won four out of six divisions in poetry recitation. Piper Kendrick of Cleveland Elementary won for 4th grade, Kennedy Moultrie of Kedron Elementary won for 5th grade, Reagan Harvey of Flat Rock won for 6th grade, and Simone Antoine of Flat Rock won for 7th grade.

Students are judged on stage presence, articulation, interpretation, difficulty of piece, and memory and accuracy. They can earn extra points for fluency, gestures, and expression.

The Griffin RESA Regional Literacy Days Festival includes students in grades 3-8 from the school systems of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties.

Winners at the Fayette County Poetry Recitation Contest who advanced to the regional competition were Jayden Bollar (kindergarten, Robert J. Burch Elementary), Maegen Waddy (1st grade, Cleveland Elementary), Laila Bollar (2nd grade, Robert J. Burch Elementary), Harper Rickman (3rd grade, Inman Elementary), Piper Kendrick (4th grade, Cleveland Elementary), and Kennedy Moultrie (5th grade, Kedron Elementary).
