Students saw a chance to help their community, and they stepped up. Peeples Elementary 3rd grade enrichment students designed and installed a “Take One Leave One Library” to share their love of reading.

The class learned about how the world is a system, and they analyzed problems, triumphs, strengths, and concerns found on all continents.

“In doing this, they decided that if everyone in the world could learn to read and have access to books, then the world would have a greater chance of success,” said enrichment teacher Shaylen Dixon.

Students used their knowledge of area, perimeter, and measurement to design a Take One Leave One Library for the community to use. They researched the cost of materials and reached out to community members for help. Kyle Mapp heard about the students’ goal, and he worked with Michelle from the Fayetteville Home Depot to supply all the materials needed to make their library vision come to fruition.

“The students drilled and painted with excitement,” said Dixon. “They decided they wanted to do their part to make this happen in their own community!”
