Running a stop sign can lead to a ticket. Things can get much worse for the driver if drugs and a handgun are found in the vehicle’s glove box.

It was on Nov. 20 that 35-year-old Fayetteville resident Laura E. Hernandez Turcios ran a stop sign at Beauregard Boulevard and Nancy Lane and was stopped by a Fayetteville officer.

Aside from being charged with the moving violation and not having a driver’s license, the woman was charged with two felony counts of drug possession, drug-related objects, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and misdemeanor marijuana, according to Fayette County Jail records.

The officer at the traffic stop located two 7-gram bags of suspected psilocin mushrooms, a scale, a large quantity of unused baggies and a handgun in the glove box of the Lexus, said Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Jeff Harris.

In another case, Fayetteville police on Nov. 18 responded to the Piedmont Urgent Care facility on Ga. Highway 85 North on an entering auto call.

Harris said a member of the cleaning crew returned to his vehicle to find that a sum of cash in an envelope had been stolen from the vehicle, which had been left unlocked.
