They love making new friends at Fayetteville Elementary where 2nd graders had a wonderful time with a new “Cookies with a Cop” initiative.

Proposed by Principal Dr. Monica Reckley, Cookies with a Cop was an opportunity for all 2nd grade students to form positive relationships with the Fayetteville Police Department. The program brings local law enforcement into classrooms, where Officer Israel and Officer Brandao read Valentine’s Day books, asked thought provoking questions about the books, and ate cookies with the students. At the end of the read aloud, the officers answered questions students had about their profession and awarded students with an honorary police badge.

“Our 2nd graders were so excited to have our community leaders come in and read to them and learn more about how police serve and protect our neighborhoods and surrounding areas,” said teacher Renee Callier. “I hope our students are able to continue to form positive relationships with our police department and know we are all invested in their growth and rooting for them to succeed.”
