The honor of the Liberty Tree planting was bestowed upon Hopeful Baptist Church in north Fayette County (established 1825) by Fayette’s Lafayette Chapter — Sons of the American Revolution, America250, veterans and community leaders.

During the American Revolutionary War, Sons of Liberty gathered together under historic trees called Liberty Trees. These trees became symbols of American freedom.

“In remembrance of these historic trees and meetings we are pleased to participate in this national tree planting effort,” said Bloise Hill, Sons of the American Revolution.

Marc Potteiger, added, “America250 is a nonpartisan effort working to engage every American leading up to and including our 250th Anniversary of the United States. We hope to have many community events reflecting not just on our past but our exciting future.”

“Historic Hopeful Cemetery is the final resting place of veterans spanning the history of the United States,” said Lynn Edge, Hopeful Trustee. “We are honored to have this iconic symbol of America and pray future generations will look proudly on what it represents .Trees are living witnesses to our past present and future.”
