Residents of a Peachtree City apartment complex will be getting some of their mail a bit late this week, but it’s for a good cause.
A crime ring that specializes in breaking into mailboxes to obtain information for identity theft was thwarted by the Peachtree City Police Department in the wee hours of Feb. 13, according to the administrator of the department’s always-entertaining Facebook page.
The suspects broke into every mailbox in the Camden apartments, the social media post noted. “Unfortunately for the miscreants, Detective Lieff was on the case and had passed on the lookout to our officers, and Delta team was on the lookout.”
Sgt. Isaac and Delta team were on the case at about 4:30 in the morning, and they soon rounded up the suspects — or “nefarious ne’er-do-wells,” as the Facebook writer called them. “The offenders are currently enjoying the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office’s fine facilities.”
With the suspects in jail, the mail has been recovered and now the task is to sort it once again so that each resident can receive his or her correct posts.
“It’s gonna be a minute before we can get all the mail sorted,” the Facebook post acknowledged. “So, the good news is bad people are in jail, and the bad news is your mail may be delayed a bit.”
