Pedestrian dies after being struck while walking down middle lane of Stonewall Avenue at night

Fayetteville police are investigating a July 4 vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

It happened around 10:44 p.m. in the area of Stonewall Avenue West and Heritage Park Way, according to a statement by the Fayetteville Police Department. The pedestrian was identified as William Grigsby, 35, of Augusta. He was transported to Piedmont Fayette hospital for treatment but died July 6 as a result of his injuries.

Preliminary information indicates that the victim was walking east in the center eastbound lane of Stonewall Avenue West at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained on the scene, police said.

The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement and Accident Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the collision and the factors that led to it. Additional details will be provided at a later time as they become available.
