In the end, many people believe that the loved one they’ve just lost was the best there ever was and in our case it’s true. Jack Ramey spent his entire life being the best type of man. He was the sibling and son that cared for and enlightened every moment, the husband that delighted in and wanted nothing else than the life you lived together, and the dad who supported, loved and championed his children. He was all you could ask of someone, and he did it with an ease, humor and joy that is impossible to replace.
It is with these irreplaceable memories in our hearts, and with profound sadness that the family of Jack Ramey shares the news of his passing on December 28th, 2024, at the age of 66. Jack lived in Peachtree City, Georgia and Brewster, Massachusetts and passed away peacefully at his Brewster home with his loving family by his side.
The son of Sam and Dorothy Ramey, Jack – a tried-and-true Hoosier, grew up in Kendallville, Indiana with his six cherished siblings: Bee, Ruth, Madeline, Mary, Linda, and Don. Jack loved all the family and community that small town life offered, and he leaves behind many beloved family and friends.
A gifted athlete, Jack’s love of football took him to college, where he played on scholarship at the University of Evansville and Taylor University before ultimately landing at Butler University. At Butler, Jack met his sweetheart and wife to be Sarah. Jack would later swear that he came to Butler just to meet her.
Jack and Sarah married in 1982 and made it to their 42nd wedding anniversary last year. Jack was most proud of his loving family life and cherished being a father to daughter Jessica and son Jason. As the family grew, so too did Jack’s joy in loving his daughter in-law Hillary and his two grandchildren Guy and Winnie. Jack particularly adored becoming a grandfather and being christened “DadDog” by Guy – a nickname which would stick for the rest of his life.
To know Jack was to love him. His terrific sense of humor brightened everyone’s day and made any situation fun – court dates, elementary school recorder concerts, you name it. Jack always had a joke ready for any occasion. Though humor was his forte, he loved big and was always available to listen, comfort and advise anyone in need.
A born entrepreneur, Jack founded and ran a successful business for 30 years. Jack’s drive and vision forged new approaches to industrial problems; and his character fostered close relationships within the industry – with many business associates becoming genuine friends.
Jack’s chief pleasure centered around hosting and entertaining friends and family over meals. A natural and talented chef, meals and patio parties brought all his neighbors, friends and family together over the years – with Jack always at the center of fun and levity. His passion for hosting has become a beloved tradition that we will joyfully continue in his honor.
Jack leaves behind him such a large tribe of family and friends who grieve his passing and the loss they have sustained in their lives through his absence. His adored wife Sarah (Caudill) Ramey, his cherished children, daughter Jessica Catherine Ramey, his son Jason Samuel Ramey, daughter-in-law Hillary Diane Ramey, his grandchildren Guy Nathaniel Ramey and Winnie Jane Ramey. His sisters and brothers Ruth (Ramey) Dukes and husband Doug, Mary (Ramey) Schuman and husband Monty, Madeline (Ramey) Hoover and husband Bob, Linda (Ramey) Smith and husband David, Don Ramey and numerous loved nieces and nephews. Eldest brother Bee Ramey and parents Dorothy (Terry) Ramey and Sam Ramey preceded Jack to heaven.
A celebration of Jack’s life is open to all family and friends and will be held at 12pm Thursday, February 13th, 2025, with a visiting hour for all before at 11am, at Hite Funeral Home at 403 South Main Street, Kendallville, Indiana, with burial following at Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett, Indiana.
