Morning at the Museum brought historical figures to life at Robert J. Burch Elementary to the delight of the community.

The 2nd grade social studies acting integration project saw students research a historical figure and develop a monologue based on them. They then performed the monologue in costume. Family and friends were invited to take in the performances in the school cafeteria before the learning continued in the classrooms with student-led parent-teacher conferences.

Historical figures portrayed included icons like Jackie Robinson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Tomochichi, and Rosalyn Carter.

Morning at the Museum was the culmination of a partnership with the Alliance Theatre that saw teaching artist Barry Stewart Mann make multiple visits with the Bears. Mann helped the students bring the historical figures to life by learning about the 3 tools of an actor: Voice, body, and imagination. In partnership with writing and revising their monologues, Mann helped them use those acting tools to present their work.
