Crabapple Lane Elementary hosted their annual Amazing Shake competition focused on helping students build employability skills.
Teaching students manners, discipline, respect, and how to conduct themselves in a professional environment is the backbone of the competition. Students learn the mechanics of a proper handshake and working a room so that they are able to present themselves well for opportunities today and in the future.
For their 3rd edition, the Cardinals expanded the competition to include their fellow county schools. Students from Crabapple Lane, Robert J. Burch Elementary, JC Booth Middle, and Flat Rock Middle spent the morning “running” a gauntlet that put them in 15 different, sometimes quirky, life situations.
The 36 students were narrowed down through a cold call question session, adult-led conversation with 6 students, and a debate round. At the end of the day, Flat Rock 6th grader Piper Villarreal was crowned as the Amazing Shake Champion.
The event was a joint effort of staff from Crabapple Lane, Burch Elementary, and Flat Rock Middle along with more than 50 judges and volunteers.
