Is Jesus Satisfied with Me?

I ran into a neighbor in the grocery store (I do some of my best pastoral visitation in grocery stores) and we enjoyed a big greeting and spontaneous reunion. I often saw this gentleman taking a walk while I was jogging, and we’d sometimes visit briefly. I had not seen him for some time.

He used a cane and was moving slowly.

I said, “I’m glad to see you.”

He said, “I’m glad to be seen!”

We laughed and I said, “I’m glad you’re still with us! I’m glad you’re still on the green side of the grass.”

“Me, too!”

“Are you still doing your walking?”

“No, I can’t get around like I used to,” he replied.

“I’m sorry,” I said.

“No, it’s okay. I’m fine. I am satisfied,” he stated enthusiastically.

I said, “That sounds like a song.”

He continued, getting excited, “I am satisfied with Jesus.”

“A-Men!” I said.

Then I immediately started softly singing the chorus to that sweet hymn, “I Am Satisfied.”

As I began, he joined in, right there in the produce section as customers around us shopped.

I am satisfied, I am satisfied, I am satisfied with Jesus,

But the question comes to me, as I think of Calvary,

Is my Master satisfied with me.”

I haven’t thought about that 1926 B. B. McKinney hymn in years, but the tune stuck with me all day. I sang the chorus out loud again and again.

What does it mean to be satisfied with Jesus? Being satisfied with Jesus means realizing He alone is sufficient. We find ultimate fulfillment, joy, peace, and contentment in Jesus. Nothing the world offers can satisfy the way Jesus satisfies.

J. D. Greear wrote, “Satisfaction in Jesus means we have absolute assurance that we belong to Him and He belongs to us” (www.jdgreear.com, “What Does It Mean to Be Satisfied in Jesus?” 9/30/2024).

Then the question once again came to me: Is Jesus satisfied with me? Is Jesus satisfied with my life? Let’s ask . . .

Is Jesus satisfied with my priorities? (Matthew 6:33).

Is Jesus satisfied with my focus? (Psalm 25:15).

Is Jesus satisfied with my commitment? (Joshua 24:15).

Is Jesus satisfied with how I love Him? (Matthew 22:37)

Is Jesus satisfied with my prayer life? (Matthew 6:5-13).

Is Jesus satisfied with my time spent in personal Bible study? (Psalm 119:97, 105).

Is Jesus satisfied with my scripture memory? (Psalm 119:11).

Is Jesus satisfied with my thought life? Am I keeping my thoughts pure? (Philippians 4:8).

Is Jesus satisfied with how I manage my anger? (Ephesians 4:26-27).

Is Jesus satisfied with my speech? (James 3:1-12).

Is Jesus satisfied with my witness? Does my life point people to Jesus or do I hinder people from coming to Jesus? (Matthew 5:16).

Is Jesus satisfied with my boldness to witness? (Acts 1:8).

Is Jesus satisfied with my forgiving others? (Matthew 5:23-24, 6:14-15).

Is Jesus satisfied with my level of faith (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Is Jesus satisfied with my church involvement? (Hebrews 10:25)

Is Jesus satisfied with how I treat my family members? (I Corinthians 13).

Is Jesus satisfied with my generosity? (2 Corinthians 9:6, 7).

I am satisfied with Jesus. Is Jesus satisfied with me?
