The Chiefs are champions. The McIntosh High team of Vedita Sawhney, Andrew Deng, Anakin Park, and Haoyu Liu won 1st place in the 5A division at the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCTM) state competition.

In addition to finishing on top of the 9-team division, the Chiefs also earned two individual honors.

Andrew Deng won the Steve Sigur award for the most improved score from one year to the next with a 74-point increase.

Haoyu Liu, a sophomore, was invited to be a part of the Georgia American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) team for the national and international Math Olympiad competitions. ARML is an annual national high school mathematics team competition.

The team is coached by Chris Flournoy.

“I have been waiting several years for this Dream Team to assemble at this competition,” said Flournoy. “It was worth the wait.”
