A single-car crash early Thursday morning on Peachtree Parkway near the Marks Style subdivision left the driver deceased.
Peachtree City Police responded to the scene at 6:46 a.m. on July 24, though investigators believe the collision occurred around 4:00 a.m. Early findings suggest the driver may have been speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and driving under the influence.
“Early indicators suggest the vehicle was travelling at an extremely high rate of speed, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and there is evidence to suggest that the driver was impaired at the time of the collision,” the department said in a statement released Friday.
The crash remains under investigation by the department’s Community Response team, which includes Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialists trained in handling serious and fatal collisions.
The statement concludes by saying, “Fortunately, fatal collisions are relatively rare in Peachtree City but the majority involve drivers impaired by alcohol or other substances. Please do not drink and drive.”
