A Brooks resident who was fighting her way back from severe injuries in a Dec. 23 car crash died Saturday.

Candice Smith, 19, was being treated at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta where she was also receiving physical and speech therapy.

The crash occurred Dec. 23 on Ga. Highway 16 near Huckabee Road.

The funeral will be Saturday, March 6 at Brooks United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

Smith, a graduate of Whitewater High School who ran track and played in the band, is being vividly remembered on Facebook as a person who brought smiles to the faces of others and was also a great role model.

“Heaven gained one of the kindest, most loving people on earth today,” wrote Daniel Langford.

“You brought so much joy and laughter to my life and others,” wrote Marleigh Cummings. “You were an amazing role model and our youth looked up to you. I will definitely miss your smile and laugh.”

The family request donations be made to Brooks UMC missions (770) 719-7593, Grady Memorial Hospital Trauma unit or The Shepherd Center.
