Celebrating the Life of Mary Frances (Fran) Holroyd Flora
November 4, 1934 – January 19, 2025
With hearts full of love, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Mary Frances “Fran” Holroyd Flora, who passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, in Peachtree City, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 4, 1934, in Selma, Alabama, to Harry Marshall Holroyd and Mary Frances McMilion Holroyd, Fran lived a life filled with faith, compassion, and a deep love for every person and animal she encountered.
Fran was predeceased by her husband of nearly 57 years, Jefferson Harold Flora, Jr. Together, they created a beautiful life in Atlanta, Georgia, and later in Peachtree City. Fran’s legacy continues through her children: Jeff (Cindy) Flora of West Richland, Washington; Mary Flora, PhD, of Asheville, North Carolina; and Will (Melanie) Flora of Peachtree City, Georgia. Her beloved grandchildren—Hal Flora of West Richland, Washington, Mary Beth (Kellen) Adcock of Kennewick, Washington, Kyle (Jennifer) Flora of Peachtree City, Georgia, Emily Flora of West Richland, Washington, Chad Flora of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Miles (Shenandoah) Flora of Peachtree City, Georgia—and great-grandchildren—Emmett Adcock of Kennewick, Washington, Eden Flora of Fayetteville, Georgia, Eli Adcock of Kennewick, Washington, Russell Adcock of Kennewick, Washington, Evelina Flora of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Rowan Flora of Peachtree City, Georgia—will carry forward her memory and her example of love and generosity. She is also survived by her first cousin and lifelong best friend, Carl S. McMilion of Gardendale, Alabama.
Fran and Carl shared a sibling-like bond, inseparable through childhood and beyond. Her tenacious spirit shone brightly throughout her life, particularly in her nearly four-decade career with Delta Air Lines. After persistent efforts to join the airline, Fran began as a reservationist in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later became a flight attendant. Returning to Delta Reservations in Atlanta in 1965, she earned recognition for her exceptional customer service and was eventually promoted to Executive Accounts. Among her proudest achievements were booking travel for the Carter Administration’s Secret Service and the Billy Graham Crusades. Fran retired from Delta in 1992, carrying fond memories of her work and colleagues.
In addition to her career, Fran’s life was defined by her unshakable faith in Christ and her boundless compassion. She was a devout member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, where she found joy in friendships and church activities after moving there with Jeff in the mid-2000s. Her faith inspired her commitment to helping others, including her dedication to assisting Vietnamese refugees in Atlanta during the 1980s, as they built new lives in the community.
Fran’s kindness extended to all living beings—her family fondly recalls her love for every person and animal she ever met. Her gentle and nurturing nature left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
A small family gathering will take place to celebrate Fran’s life and honor her legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a cause that is most meaningful to you, in honor of Fran’s compassionate spirit and her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Fran’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed but forever celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
