Kedron Elementary 1st graders had ooey gooey fun working with pumpkins. Students in the classes of Maddy Kuhne and Morgan Lovett carved out pumpkins, then made a tasty treat out of the seeds.

Starting with a carved out pumpkin, each student got a chance to help scoop out the seeds. While they were working, they talked about different sensory words to describe what they were seeing, smelling, feeling, and hearing.

Once they were done, students completed an opinion writing on whether or not they liked carving the pumpkin. They were able to introduce their opinion, give a reason, and sum up the writing.

The lesson wasn’t done as they later got to taste test roasted pumpkin seeds and write their opinion of them, too.
