Thanks to Camp Soaring Eagle, Flat Rock Middle’s rising 6th graders are ready to take flight. Camp Soaring Eagle brought students to campus to better get to know their future school, and 175 future Eagles jumped at the opportunity.

Students rotated between four activities: locker practice, a scavenger hunt to help them see the whole building, kindness rock painting, and “Eagle Jeopardy” to teach school rules and community trivia.

The camp culminated with a large group Q&A where the rising Eagles asked current Flat Rock students about how middle school works.

While their students were busy, parents and guardians attended a Q&A session and tour of their own with camp co-directors Melissa Lohr, Flat Rock’s parent liaison, and Kendra Brown, a 6th-grade math teacher at the school.

“The camp went amazingly well and helped to calm the nerves of first-time middle school parents and students,” said Lohr. “For many of the families that attended, this was their very first time in the building because COVID protocols last year inhibited normal moving to middle school activities.”
