When it comes to finding a replacement for outgoing Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Jody Barrow, school board Chairman Scott Hollowell said the process is moving forward as quickly as possible.

Barrow announced in February that he would be retiring at the end of June. That led to a search for a new superintendent, with the closing date for the position coming in late May. It was during the search period that the Covid-19 pandemic was in full-swing.

Meantime, Barrow agreed, at the request of the school board, to postpone his retirement for a few months.

“Hopefully we’ll be getting candidates the first part of June,” Hollowell said on May 11. “We just thought as a board, there’s a lot of planning to be done this summer. There’s a lot of uncertainty still surrounding what the school year could look like this fall. For consistency sake, we’ve asked Dr. Barrow to postpone his retirement.”

The school board began reviewing applications in early June. Those considerations are still underway, with Hollowell saying last week that the school board has met three times to discuss potential candidates.

“The process is ongoing,” Hollowell said.

Indicating that even though there is no time frame connected to finding a replacement, Hollowell said the school board continues to do its due diligence in determining who the next superintendent will be.

“We’re moving ahead as quickly as we can,” he said.
