A Nov. 26 dump truck fire that caused tires to explode at a Fayetteville business was extinguished by firefighters and resulted in no injuries.

Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson Ann Marie Burdett said officers at approximately 7:50 p.m. were dispatched to Concrete Supply Co., located on Georgia Avenue near Hood Avenue and off Ga. Highway 85 North.

Burdett said the call was in reference to a dump truck on fire. Once at the scene, officers were told that the dump truck’s battery shorted-out, causing the truck to catch fire.

Heat from the fire caused the tires to explode, said Burdett.

Nearby neighbors told The Citizen they heard two explosions and smelled what they thought to be burning rubber.

Burdett said the Fayetteville Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, adding that there were no injuries reported.
